The Nami Dress

When I heard CrochetwithAlannaMiall had designed a dress version of the Nami top, I knew I had to buy the pattern and crochet one. The Nami dress pattern uses fingering weight yarn, so I went on another yarn adventure trying to find some since it doesn’t seem to be in stock at Joann’s or Michael’s in my area (in fact, the Woolike yarn I used for the Gaia top now seems to be discontinued too… surprise, surprise). I stumbled across Cascade Yarns Heritage at my local Ben Franklin - it’s more spendy than what I tend to use, but I really wanted to make this dress for myself so I decided to roll with it.

The dress wasn’t difficult to work up since I had already completed the Nami top. I did make one alteration to the back of the dress to match the front since I didn’t want to have it tie at the top. Overall, I’m pretty pleased with the finished dress and I like the look of it with a nude slip underneath (I just need to do some chopping on the slip’s neckline to make it match as you can see from the pictures). I do wish I had done a better job of anticipating how the weight of the dress would pull it down so I would’ve made the length to the increases a little shorter. I’m still learning these lessons as I go since it’s hard to combat the “oh no you should do X more rows to make sure it’s not too short/small” feeling. I’m still really proud of how this turned out - it’s the largest clothing piece I’ve made for myself so far!
