Violet Tasting Menu
/Jeff had decided he wanted to try a new to us tasting menu for his birthday dinner. After spending some time researching and looking through lots of Yelp pictures, he landed on Violet and made a reservation for last Saturday night. The restaurant was small (I think I counted 12 tables), but not cramped. I immediately got giddy when I spotted a cookbook from El Bulli on the shelf behind the row of tables where we were seated (it’s part of how my whole interest in food took off back in college) and that gave me high hopes for the meal we were about to eat. There was a regular menu in addition to the American Omakase (5 courses). We ordered a few items off the regular menu in addition to the American Omakase. Here are some of the pictures Jeff took and some very bare descriptions below (I neglected to write down the descriptions as the items were served):
Nerdzzz cocktail and an old fashioned
Octopus (we added this from the regular menu)
Olives and nuts
Prosciutto with melon and fennel pretzels
Anchovies and peppers
Bread
Tuna
Scallop
Foie gras with cacao nibs and vanilla honey
Lamb, asparagus, and potatos
Creme brulee
Affogatto (added from the regular menu)
I’m happy to report we left both happy and full. The menu made some pairings we wouldn’t have chosen ourselves, but we found them all quite tasty. We would definitely return for a special occasion.
