New Home Office
/For the last several months, I have been struggling with feelings of unhappiness towards our house (even though I know what we have should suit us nicely). I grew borderline obsessed with checking Redfin for houses in our area, but the prices are so steep it just doesn’t make sense for us to move. We talked it out and decided to see what kind of updates we could make to help me move through/past these feelings and the first option was to split out our home office. We have shared the office since we moved in so we could keep a guest bedroom, but we decided that it no longer made sense since we very rarely have house guests. Once the decision was official, we had quite a bit of work to do to get this rolling.
First up was cleaning out the guest bedroom which had honestly become quite a junk storage room. This was a bit more difficult than we had anticipated as the place we usually take unneeded items to donate closed down during the height of the pandemic. We ended up hiring a local removal service that takes everything away and donates items as they can instead. Next up was paint - the guest bedroom was lime green from the previous owners and I had painted our office bright orange before we moved in. We decided it was time to start over and go boring white. This process took us quite a bit of time, especially in the orange room since that was tough to cover.
We’re still working on finishing up final furniture layouts and wall décor, but we now officially each have our own office to do as we please. It feels nice to have my own space to both work from home and use as a craft room. Jeff now also has a lot of space to store our many food “things” that don’t fit in our tiny kitchen and he can use the space my desk was previously occupying as a food photography area instead of having to move everything around in our dining room. Ultimately, I think getting rid of the guest bedroom (aka junk storage room) was the right move for us.
