Holo Taco Birthstone Collection

Each year, Cristine releases something special for her birthday. In the past, these releases have been a bit smaller, but this year she decided to launch the biggest collection Holo Taco has ever had - a whopping 12 polishes as the Birthstone collection. I found this a bit unexpected since there was a gemstone collection that was previously prototyped, but never released… now we know why! I ordered the entire set since I thought this was a neat idea - especially since Cristine has previously done small collabs for her birthday and this year she is essentially collabing with all the Holo Taco customers. I’m so glad I purchased as soon as it dropped since it sold out much more quickly than anticipated (I think it was under 2 hours). My set has arrived, so let’s dive in!

This collection doesn’t include a collection box, but each of the 12 polishes are packaged in a limited edition gemstone carton:

  • Gosh Garnet - a deep burgundy polish in a shimmering metallic formula

  • Crystal Mommy - a purple polish in a crushed holo formula with pink microshimmer

  • Happily Ever Aqua - a pale aqua polish in a linear holographic formula with cyan shimmer

  • Ride Or Diamond - a silver polish in a multi-glitter formula including scattered and linear holos, holo flakes, and reflective glitters

  • Emerald City - a deep green iridescent flake polish with scattered holo

  • The Price Is Alexandrite - a teal to purple multichrome formula polish with with purple metallic flakes and scattered holo

  • Ruby, Madly, Deeply - a bright red chunky glitter polish

  • Peridon’t Bother Me - a lime green polish in a shimmery formula and includes green reflective glitter

  • Playing With Sapphire - a deep blue polish in an iridescent flake formula with scattered holo

  • Birthday Brat - a hot pink polish in a frosted metal formula

  • Topaz Tears - a brown polish with brown jelly base containing iridescent flakes, shimmer, and scattered holo

  • Tanzanite Away - a purple polish with an indigo jelly base containing micro shimmer, scattered holo, and reflective glitters

I had a difficult time coming up with a nail art idea for this collection and initially prepped to do a nail vinyl look over white. That idea failed swatch stick testing after I already painted the base on my nails, so I ended up with this weird French mani instead. It’s definitely not my favorite. I always do a skittle for new collections and figuring out how to make them all fit on one hand without growing extra fingers was a bit of a challenge, but I actually prefer this look to other one because the colors line up so nicely (first six months on the top of the nail and second six months on the bottom of the nail with April/October pulled to use as the line accent).
