The Nami Top

CrochetwithAlannaMiall is still one of my favorite crochet designers that I follow on Instagram. I bought a few more of her patterns last November and I’ve finally completed one of the items - the Nami top! I sized up to a 4.0mm (G) hook to try to make gauge (which I was successful at width wise, but not height wise which thankfully was not a big deal). I had trouble finding 4-ply yarn when I previously made the Wonderland top and I still had difficulty finding it for the Nami top. I’m wondering if the big craft stores in the US carry so little of the finer weight yarns because they sell poorly or if I just need to start shopping elsewhere (or maybe both?). I ultimately went with Lion Brand Summer Nights yarn in the Castaway colorway for this project.

This top came out beautifully and the pattern was just right for me to follow along since there was plenty of written detail accompanied by great pictures. The only thing I would change is my yarn choice - I think the variegated yarn color took away from the zigzag detail. Many of Alanna’s testers used multiple solid colors for a more striped look and I think I will be trying that when I make this again. My next project is another of her patterns and I will be testing out a different super fine yarn that I was able to locate at Michael’s that comes in many solid colors. More to come!
