Puff Flower Tank Top
/I got really into following crochet artists on Instagram since the pandemic began. One of the artists I found that I really like is Eurythmik - she has all kinds of amazing designs, but I really love the look of her Bee Food top that’s made out of individually crocheted flowers. When I discovered another of my favorite crochet designers had a piece made out of similar flowers (CrochetWithAlannaMiall’s Groovy Flower bralette), I took it as a sign that I should try to construct a tank top. It has been almost a year since I started this process, but the tank top is complete!
I used a puff flower pattern from Bella Coco to crochet 136 rainbow colored flowers that I arranged and sewed together. I had originally planned to have the flowers go all the way around the back, but I ran out and was not about to crochet any more of them since I ran out of one color of yarn (and overall project fatigue). I ended up creating simple panels for the back that lace up. I also made some braided ties for the halter part.
While the top does look neat, assembly was a nightmare (so much sewing and so many loose ends) and it fits really poorly. The puff flowers were not a great choice since they are really thick and don’t make for a very comfy fit. I also made the back panels too big so the lace up part doesn’t fit or look quite right. Overall, I think this was another one of those things I got really excited about the idea of, but just couldn’t pull off the execution. I’ll stick to using tested patterns from actual crochet designers moving forward instead of going down the rabbit hole of trying to get all creative to make a neat garment for myself.
